“The position of low-caste women in Asian society is little more than that of a slave. They work tirelessly with little or no recognition, are completely subservient to their husbands and in-laws, and under such great pressure that their personal needs are rarely met.”
Adjun, Empart Field Worker
The social system, as well as a lack of education, money and hope ultimately keeps Asian women trapped in their circumstances and unable to escape.
One of the ways we’re addressing this is through Skills Centres.
Skills Centres have been set up to give disadvantaged women and men the skills they need to be able to earn a living and become independent.
With the support of local communities, Empart sets up these Centres to teach skills such as tailoring, candle making and computers.
